Symbiotic Sound

Installation using sound to explore symbiotic relationships between plants, other species and their environment. Speakers surgically implanted in carnivorous plants’ pitcher-shaped leaves play a 12-channel sound composition, buzzing with the sounds of insects, bats and dripping water. This work is based on a real species of plant that has adapted to echo the call of bats call using their leaves as sound mirrors. The plants offer the bats a safe place to rest, and in return they receive nutritious insects and guano.
